Toddler Community Children 16 months to 3 years are eager to learn about the world outside of their family. The Toddler community is a small group of children with two adults where children are drawn to activities that nurture creativity, concentration, and independence. They learn to care for their own physical needs and participate in caring for their home-like environment. The children genuinely care for others as they cook and dine in a communal setting, fostering true social relationships.Since the children perform meaningful work with real, child-sized tools, their vocabularies are built on real experiences. Language development is further enhanced when children enjoy listening and moving to poetry and music. An appreciation and respect for nature arise from opportunities to care for plants and animals in the classroom and in the outdoors. This leads to the children's awareness of their connection to the natural world. “Therefore, it is clear that we must not
carry the child about, but let him walk, and if his hand wishes to work we must
provide him with things on which he can exercise an intelligent activity. His
own actions are what take the little one along the road to independence.”
