Philosophy

Mountain Laurel Montessori School adheres to the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. According to Dr. Montessori, a pioneer in education and child psychology, education should be an aid to life.

In a Montessori environment the child’s own natural love of learning is cultivated.The child is supported in his own process of self-construction by adults. We offer love and respect in an environment with endless possibilities of exploration with materials and activities which are designed to entice and delight.

Every year our teachers attend conferences and continuing education courses that allow us to reflect upon why we do this work. It is not just to create precocious children who shine academically (which many of our students do), nor just to help the children become well-rounded in all areas, nor is our goal to assure that children will become financially secure adults. Our hope for each child is that whatever potential a child has can have a chance to blossom and that each child has respect for himself, the environment, and all people of the world. We want each child to become a happy person who contributes to the good of society through work and actions, which bring him sustaining joy.
