"If a child is given a sense of endless time, if there is not a demand for product, and each child's pace and rhythm are respected, the process of completing any task undertaken, of acquiring any ability, becomes a voyage of delight and discovery, a source of everlasting interest."                       --- Renilde Montessori        [Maria Montessori's youngest granddaughter]

TEAM MONTESSORI WINS BIG FOR JDRF

Team Montessori raised almost $1,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation!  Thanks to all those who gave so generously to help find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.  Thanks especially to the Hughey family for their hard work and dedication to this cause, and for promoting our school in the community via local radio and newspapers.  Way to go, team!

CAR RIDES - OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING AND GROWTH

Take lessons from those parents of teenage drivers - the hours you spend in the car with your children are priceless!  Young children, when not distracted by in-car videos, love to watch the world go by and will pose brilliant questions and comments about what they see.  Older children often take the opportunity to share information about their day and will listen to what you have to say, too.  When children have friends in the car with them, it's amazing how they can forget there's an adult present - imagine the valuable insights you can gain from their conversations!  When children are allowed to "tune out" via videos, game boys, iPods, etc., important opportunities for strengthening relationships and for learning are lost.  Whenever possible, please unplug the electronics - especially on the way to school in the morning.  It's disheartening when a little one doesn't want to get out of the car at school because they're in the middle of a cartoon ... Here is a link to some fun games to play in the car:  http://www.gameskidsplay.net/frame_alphabetical_listing.htm

KIDSART FUNDRAISER
A GREAT BIG THANK-YOU to Samantha Lehmann for her work on the KidsArt Fundraiser.  This project raised $475 profit for our PTO!  We expect orders to arrive the week before Winter Break.

CAMPBELLS SOUP LABELS
Please start saving Campbells Soup labels and other participating Campbells products for the Front Royal Moose Lodge.  This organization is a great supporter of Mountain Laurel and uses the labels for children's charities.  We tried to save them just for our school, but we are not big enough to make any significant money.  The Moose Lodge has a much larger pool of collectors and they are added to the other Moose lodges in the country - so it really makes a difference!  Please send your labels to the school to the attention of Elaine Glier.

MARTIN'S A+ REWARDS PROGRAM

As many of you know, Mountain Laurel participates in Martin's A+ School Rewards Program.  So far, our total rewards amount is $144.70 in just one month, with 77 card numbers registered!!!  We're currently the top earning private school in the local area - way to shop!!!  If you have not already done so, please send your 11-digit Bonus Card number to Elaine Glier via email, telephone, or the office, so we can designate your school bonus points to Mountain Laurel (this has no effect on any other promotions that you accrue with your Bonus Card).  All Bonus Card numbers begin with 480.  No other information is needed, so please don't worry about getting unsolicited correspondence - not even your name is required for registration!  Do you have any relatives, neighbors or friends who shop at Martin's?  Ask them to let us designate their Bonus Card numbers, too!  Thanks to all those who have already sent in their numbers to help us take full advantage of this generous and simple fundraising opportunity!!!
