Adolescents are ready to employ their strengths in the broader world. Our Farm School offers each student, between 7th and 9th grades, the opportunity to become an important member of a working community. Each is challenged to contribute intellectually, physically and socially, so that the community as a whole will prosper. The farm is the ideal setting for scholars to apply their knowledge to solve problems of real economic and personal consequence. Social understanding and mutual respect are fostered through adults and students working side by side. Ours is a healthful, protected, engaging environment that matches the needs of those working to become adults.

Students understand the point of higher mathematics as they apply their lessons to farm situations such as estimating the production of eggs or hay. Chemistry, biology, anatomy, and physics are all tied to work on the farm through use of water quality analysis, food preservation techniques, in-depth animal studies, organic gardening, and construction of farm shelters.
The farm and the rural community provide an area for historical exploration and the study of the humans who came before. In-depth research of localities inspires students to examine other cultures throughout history that were uniquely suited to their time and place.
Adolescence is a time to explore human emotions in all their subtleties, and creative expression is vital to this process. Literary, visual, and performing arts are integrated into our humanities work and the students enjoy frequent opportunities to share their talents with the community.
Physical expression through team sports and recreational games provides the outlet adolescents need to challenge and coordinate their rapidly changing bodies. Through activities as diverse as soccer, martial arts, archery, skiing, hiking, canoeing - even juggling - students bond through camaraderie, sportsmanship and simple, joyful play.
