Farm School

Adolescents are ready to employ their strengths in the broader world. Our farm school program offers each student, between the ages of 12 and 15, the opportunity to become an important member of a working community.

Each is challenged to contribute intellectually, physically and socially, so that the community as a whole will prosper. Academic understanding is deepened through the application of the skills and ideas gained through study toward the solution of problems of real economic and personal consequence.

Social understanding and mutual respect are fostered through adults and adolescents working and living side by side. Ours is a healthful, protected, encouraging, engaging environment that matches the needs of those working to become adults.

“...Work on the land is an introduction both to nature and to civilization and gives a limitless field for scientific and historic studies. If the produce can be used commercially this brings in the fundamental mechanism of society, that of production and exchange, on which economic life is based. This means that there is an opportunity to learn both academically and through actual experience what are the elements of social life.”
