Before joining Mountain Laurel, Deryn Semmes received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama from Colorado College and her Infant/Toddler Credential from the American Montessori Society.  She taught in a Toddler Community for several years at Versailles Montessori School in Kentucky before moving to Virginia in 1998.

Ms. Semmes received her Masters of Education and AMI Elementary Diploma from Loyola College and the Washington Montessori Institute.  She started Mountain Laurel's second elementary class in 2001.  Ms. Semmes is a mother of two children who have benefited from Montessori education from an early age.  Her daughter is currently a junior at Rappahannock High School and her son is in his last year at Mountain Laurel's Farm School.

Ms. Semmes finds joy in her work every day and what she loves most is discovering the universe with the children.

Deryn Semmes has been an elementary teacher at Mountain Laurel for 11 years.
