Elementary
Children between the ages of 6 and 12 have an
abundance of energy, and burgeoning imaginations! This is an explosive period of
social and intellectual growth. These children are interested in the entire
universe and want an explanation of how it all fits together.
The children are involved with materials and activities that help them explore
botany, zoology, mathematics, language, geography, history, music, art, foreign
language, and physical education. They are involved in research on self-chosen
topics and develop interests that encourage them to become life-long learners.
Their enthusiasm is further supported through trips outside the classroom to
community resources such as a library, museum, veterinary clinic, historic
landmark, concert hall, or nursing home.
“The secret of good teaching is to
regard the child’s intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown,
to grow under the heat of flaming imagination. We must so touch his imagination
as to enthuse him to his innermost core.”
-Dr. Maria
